About Alex Maddison
Hi! I'm Alex, a 27 year old language teacher from England. I'm deeply passionate about the Dutch language and culture of the Netherlands, and having learnt the language as an adult from scratch to fluency, I've developed the exact methods and materials needed to learn Dutch efficiently and enjoyably. I now speak Dutch without an accent, which blends in seamlessly with native speakers. Alongside language tutoring, I am a professional musician and have toured Europe extensively with my band. I'm also an avid sports fan (football, baseball and formula one), a season ticket holder at Middlesbrough FC, a European politics enthusiast, and I love dogs, pubs and lekkerspelen.
Teaching style
My lessons are often structured to ensure my students expand their vocabulary whilst sounding natural with precise pronunciation, but without disrupting the flow of conversation. Mistakes and areas to improve are always subtly noted. Whilst textbooks are useful, my teaching methods and resources mostly avoid traditional learning methods, and focus more on entertaining, enjoyable ways of learning. I am DBS checked and can provide certification if requested. Rescheduling is possible with prior notice but not after the scheduled lesson.
