Just moved to the Netherlands — or planning to soon? You’re in the right place. I’m Bence, a former student at a Dutch university and a passionate polyglot who learned Dutch while living and studying in the Netherlands. I’ve experienced firsthand how powerful it is to truly speak the language. In my lessons, we don’t just learn the language you need every day — like supermarket visits, public transport, small talk at work or school, doctor’s appointments, taxes, job applications, and interviews — but also how the system behind these things works: housing, municipal affairs, healthcare, public transport, student financing, waste collection, and other practical daily routines. Everything I’ve experienced, I can now teach you in a focused and concrete way. I speak fluent English, German, and Spanish, and I’m constantly learning new languages. Learning languages isn’t just something I teach — it’s my lifestyle. This gives me a deep understanding of how languages work, how to start speaking from day one, and how to focus on what really matters without drowning in unnecessary grammar. Do you speak German? Then you have a big advantage — and I know exactly how to leverage that strategically. Dutch and German are closely related, and by cleverly using the similarities in vocabulary and structure (with clear explanations of the differences), we can significantly speed up your progress. My teaching method is practical and focused on real life in the Netherlands. We learn both the language you need every day and classic themes, and I’ll show you how these are directly applicable in situations like grocery shopping, public transport, doctor visits, municipal affairs, work, study, and social interactions. Vocabulary is a priority. A strong, active vocabulary truly paves the way to fluency. We systematically work with common words and phrases that you’ll use right away in daily life. For each theme, I use frequency lists and corpus research, so every word is scientifically backed and relevant. From the very first lesson, we speak as much Dutch as possible, so your brain adapts and you build confidence from day one. The lessons are structured so that you learn enough grammar to sound natural — without drowning in theory. Typical order: phonetics, sentence structure and word order (main clause & inversion), present tense and modal verbs, past tenses for storytelling, separable verbs, articles and gender rules, practical prepositions, conditional forms, and the most common conjunctions. Everything is introduced functionally — linked to real situations. We pay a lot of attention to pronunciation and listening skills because sounding confident changes how people respond to you. I also train your ear for real Dutch — how it sounds in everyday conversations. For example: "ik heb" often becomes "'k'ep" through contraction. This way, you can follow conversations more easily. Additionally, I’ll familiarize you with Dutch culture according to your age and interests: work or student culture, social norms, music, food, geography, nightlife, and party culture. I recommend podcasts, TV shows, YouTube channels, and social media so you can naturally pick up slang, current topics, and daily expressions. Between lessons, you’ll receive clear guidelines and optional exercises to make independent progress. Depending on your time and motivation, we can significantly accelerate your learning process. Learning Dutch transforms your experience in the Netherlands. Many international students and expats feel limited in their job options because they don’t speak the language. As a result, many end up doing delivery work because that seems like the only viable option. I was able to get a nice retail job during my studies — simply because Dutch was required.
