About Iara G.
Hi everyone! I'm Iara, a true Amsterdam native (Amsterdammer). Besides Dutch I speak English, Spanish, and Portuguese, so if any of those is your native language, we can communicate perfectly. I have an Argentinian father and a Dutch mother, so I consider myself to have the best of both cultures. I currently live and work in Rio de Janeiro, where I did fieldwork for my master's degree in 2023. I have a bachelor's and master's degree in Latin American studies, and I'm obsessed with the region, partly due to family connections, of course. That's why I decided to immigrate. I'm not going to lie, I don't have any official teaching certificates or a linguistics degree. BUT I already have a year of experience teaching Dutch, I love chatting and listening and I have a huge curiosity about other people. Together, we'll learn the language and get to know each other! Learn Dutch with a true Amsterdammer, fluent in Nederlands, English, Español & Português. If your native language is any of these, we'll understand each other perfectly, and learning will go easy! I have lived 24 years in the beautiful and flat little country, and I am an expert in Dutch culture. I'm genuinely curious about other cultures, and love to share mine. Iara is a very dedicated and competent teacher! She brings great energy to the class, always makes me feel comfortable, her lessons are always relevant to my interests, and what I consider most important is that I don't feel pressured if I make a mistake because she always corrects me with due patience. I am very happy with the progress I have made under her tutoring.
I did my first couple of lessons with Iara, and I must say I am quite happy! She is very patient and respectful and lets me make mistakes, which helps the conversation keep going. She is well prepared and takes your needs and language goals into account. I fully recommend her!

Iara is truly an exceptional teacher. She always comes prepared to all classes, and she always has relevant and interesting topics to discuss. It is clear that she tailors the classes to each of her students and that she deeply cares. Great and clear grammar explanations without ever making them feel boring or stressful.
