Hallo! I'm Saskia, a Dutch woman with a passion for languages. Originally from Friesland, I've spent most of my life in the vibrant cities of Amsterdam and Utrecht. Four years ago, I moved to Aotearoa, New Zealand, for the waves and the mountains. Here I live with my partner David, our dog, and five lively chickens. Language has always been my true passion, whether spoken or written. As an expat, I know firsthand how crucial language is in truly integrating and embracing a new culture. With a degree in communication and a specialisation in text writing, I've always been immersed in the world of words. Now, I'm furthering my studies in psychology, with a keen interest in narrative therapy, which delves into how we use language to shape our experiences. I thrive on engaging in conversations and love meeting people from diverse cultures. My mission is to empower my students to connect with and understand Dutch language and culture. As I currently learn Te Reo Māori, I'm reminded of how invaluable practising with a native speaker is for mastering a new language. One of my proudest achievements is teaching my New Zealand partner to speak fluent Dutch, making our visits to the Netherlands much more fun as he can easily engage with friends, family and work colleagues. Immersive language exposure is at the heart of my classes. We'll engage in listening to and practising everyday conversations, ranging from simple greetings to intricate discussions on topics that matter to you. You'll learn vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and conversation. I can also provide homework and visual aids, and if you prefer integrating a learning app, we can incorporate that too. Our conversations will revolve around Dutch culture, traditions, and everyday life, ensuring you learn within a cultural context. We’ll use a mix of different tools and real-life materials like Dutch newspapers and television to enrich your learning experience. To reinforce your skills, we'll include writing exercises and fun activities such as games and quizzes. Together, we'll make learning Dutch an engaging and rewarding journey! I'm really happy with my Dutch teacher! She is very structured and always comes prepared. She is also very patient, which helps a lot when you're just starting. She adapts to your level but also pushes you just enough so you keep improving. I always feel motivated after class. And on top of that — she’s really nice and easy to talk to. Highly recommended!
