If you have left the Netherlands or Flanders with B2 Dutch, the realistic goal is maintenance, not progress by course. Online communities are the most practical way to keep the language in use: a daily text community, a voice space, and some listening input will do more than a weekly class you can no longer attend. Choose based on how much speaking you need and how much correction you want.
Start with the community you will actually open
Reddit r/learndutch is the largest general forum for learners. It suits people who read Dutch forums comfortably and want quick answers on grammar, resources and exam questions. It does not suit anyone hoping for structured speaking practice: it is text, asynchronous, and the quality of answers varies.
DutchMadeEasy Discord is the better fit if you want live contact. It has text channels and voice chat, with learners and native speakers mixed together. That makes it useful for keeping your ear tuned and for low-pressure speaking. It is less useful if you dislike chat apps or want a fixed schedule, because activity comes and goes.
HelloTalk works differently: it is a language exchange, so you give time in your own language in return for Dutch. The built-in correction tools are the main draw for B2 learners who want their writing fixed rather than just understood. It is a poor fit if you want to lurk quietly; exchanges need reciprocity.
For people still tied to Dutch institutions
Some B2 learners left the country but still deal with Dutch bureaucracy, family or a possible return. IamExpat - Dutch courses listings and DutchReview Community are both Netherlands-focused expat platforms with forums, articles and course directories. Neither is a language community in the strict sense, so treat them as general options. IamExpat suits people who want to track courses and read about life in NL; DutchReview suits those who want magazine-style content and a school directory. If you have no remaining link to the Netherlands, both will feel only partly relevant.
Listening that keeps B2 sharp
SBS Dutch is Australian public broadcaster audio in Dutch, aimed at Dutch speakers abroad. It fits learners who want news and community stories in natural Dutch without a lesson wrapper. It does not fit beginners, and it will not correct you. Use it as background input alongside whichever community you pick.
Where the communities fall short
Communities give volume of contact, not accuracy. At B2, small errors fossilise quietly. If you need reliable correction, add a tutor: Joshua, Teacher Cat and Daisy S. are Verified Pro tutors, meaning 3,000+ lessons and a 4.9+ rating on their platform. See the full list on /dutch-tutors. Check prices with each provider.
For vocabulary upkeep between conversations, Anki + Dutch Decks is free and has community decks at B2 level. It suits self-directed learners; it is not a community and will not give you feedback. Busuu Dutch offers native speaker feedback on exercises, which is closer to correction but still course-shaped rather than social.

If exams are still in your plans
Some moved learners keep certification on the horizon. Inburgering under the 2021 Civic Integration Act, obligatory from 1 January 2022, uses the standard route at B1 with reading, listening, writing, speaking and KNM exams; a municipality can allow A2 after substantial effort. Naturalisation requires A2 in 2026, with a move to B1 planned but no confirmed start date. Staatsexamen NT2 Programma I is B1 and Programma II is B2. Check the official source for your own case, and see /inburgering and /nt2-prep.
A workable weekly routine
Pick one community for daily text contact and one for voice. Add SBS Dutch or similar audio on commutes. If accuracy matters, book a tutor monthly rather than weekly, and bring specific questions from your community conversations. If you are unsure where to start, the /tools/path-finder and /directory can narrow the options, and /cities helps if you still travel back.
How we know this: the options come from The Dutch Directory listings checked on 2026-10-28, and fit scores are editorial, not user ratings.
