If you want an intensive Dutch course in Ghent for summer 2026, the practical shortlist is short: CVO Gent, UGent UCT and Amal Gent all operate in the city. The other providers on our list are strong but sit in Antwerp, Leuven, Nijmegen, Tilburg or Vught, so they only make sense if you are willing to travel or study online.
Start with your level, not the brochure
Intensive courses compress the same material into fewer weeks. That only works if you land in the right level. If you are a complete beginner, Amal Gent is the natural first stop: it is Ghent's city integration centre, with intake counselling and NT2 routing, and it covers A0 to B1. It is not a good fit if you already write at B2 and want academic Dutch, because that is outside its range.
CVO Gent is a recognized NT2 provider with ten level modules from A1 to C1, offered during the day, in the evening and on Saturdays, at several locations in Ghent. Registration runs through Amal. That spread makes it the most flexible option for people combining study with work or childcare. It is less suited to anyone who wants a single full-time block with a fixed cohort, because the format varies by module.
UGent UCT covers A2 to B2 and states that summer and winter courses are available, with daytime, evening, online and campus options. If you are a student or researcher who needs Dutch for university life, this is usually the closest match. It is not designed for absolute beginners, so A0 and A1 learners should look elsewhere.
What the out-of-town options offer
KU Leuven ILT runs intensive and regular NT2 courses at levels 1 to 6, with summer courses and an academic Dutch focus. It suits learners who want a university setting and can commute to Leuven. It does not suit anyone who needs to stay inside Ghent.
Linguapolis at the University of Antwerp is a recognized NT2 provider with intensive daytime and evening options, plus language testing. Good for people who want an academic angle and a test at the end. Less convenient if your base is Ghent and you have no easy rail link.
Radboud in to Languages in Nijmegen offers university-level NT2 with intensive summer programmes and academic pathways. It fits learners heading toward Dutch-taught study in the Netherlands. It is a poor fit for someone whose life, work and paperwork are all in Flanders.
Regina Coeli in Vught runs one-to-one intensive training and scores highest on our editorial fit for fast progress. It suits professionals with a clear deadline and the budget to match. It does not suit learners who want a group setting or a low-cost route, and you should check the provider for price.
Tilburg University Language Center runs a rigorous one-year intensive programme preparing for the NT2 State Exam Programma II at B2, with small classes and high commitment. That is a year, not a summer, so treat it as a different category. It is not a short summer option.

Fit the course to the goal
If your goal is inburgering, the standard route under the 2021 Civic Integration Act is B1, with exams in reading, listening, writing and speaking plus KNM. A municipality can allow A2 after substantial effort. Older obligations used A2. Check the official source for your own obligation, and see /inburgering for how the pieces connect.
If your goal is naturalisation, the language requirement is A2 in 2026. A move to B1 is planned but has no confirmed start date. That matters when you pick a summer course: aiming at A2 is a shorter path than aiming at B1.
If your goal is the Staatsexamen NT2, remember that Programma I is B1 and Programma II is B2. A summer intensive can realistically move you one level, so plan the full route rather than one course. /nt2-prep explains the exam parts.
Practical checks before you register
Ask each provider three things: the exact summer dates, the level you will be placed in, and whether the course ends with a test you can use. Do not assume a course labelled intensive means full-time; formats differ. If price matters, check the provider directly, because we do not list fees.
If you want a tutor instead of a class, /dutch-tutors lists options, and Verified Pro on this site means a tutor with 3,000+ lessons and a 4.9+ rating on their platform. For a wider view of cities, see /cities, and the /tools/path-finder can narrow the choice by level and goal.
How we know this: the options come from The Dutch Directory listings checked on 2026-10-01, and fit scores are editorial, not user ratings.
