About Guy V.
With over 3000 classes given and years of experience, I’ve helped hundreds of students to reach their goals in Dutch. With me, you can learn at your own pace, at your own level and in the way that fits your learning preferences and goals the best. I’m a flexible tutor and I’ve learned to adapt to many different students preferences and needs. Whether you’re a complete beginner or far advanced, I can probably make you progress in Dutch. If you’re a student who can still benefit from learning the basics of the Dutch language, then I suggest we follow a specific lesson methodology. We then use this methodology to learn Dutch in a structured way, in which practice and repetition is key. Even when we’re still learning the basics, almost all of my classes contain at least some part in which we practice what we learned in small conversation or at least some translating exercise from English to Dutch. If you already know the basics and have a confident A2 level or more in Dutch, then I suggest a more flexible approach, in which conversations and authentic Dutch material will be the main input for our classes. We will still dedicate some lessons to revisiting grammar and practicing with that specifically with exercises from my book or my own exercises. We’ll focus on making you construct more advanced sentences correctly, improving your listening skills in Dutch and make you more familiar with everyday Dutch, such as idiom and slang. I believe repetition is an important part of learning anything, including Dutch, so I try to always repeat new words and sentences for you in one or more future classes in order to consolidate your newly acquired language. If you want to prepare for a certain exam in Dutch, I can help you with that too. In those classes, we can do the practice exams that are available online together. We can also use other exercises online that were already created by others for more practicing material. We can also go through the different topics and situations that the exam will likely contain and practice with self made questions that resemble the official exam questions. If you’re wondering where I’m from in The Netherlands; I’m from near the city of Delft. I’ve lived near Delft and in the city of Delft for most of my life. Now I live in Cambodia and teach from here. I like reading, playing games, watching movies and swimming. I also like to go out and explore new coffee places and restaurants in town. I visit The Netherlands from time to time to visit my family and friends there. I’ve been a tutor on Preply since December 2022. Since then, I’ve learned a lot about tutoring Dutch to foreign language speakers. I’ve finished the digital teaching course of Preply and followed other webinars about teaching. Some other students have been referred to me for the reason of my conversation classes or the relaxed and patient way in which I teach. I would say I’m a patient tutor and I have a flexible approach towards teaching. My motto: Speaking a language is about being able to ‘use’ the language, not about ‘knowing’ the rules. My mission: To help people to navigate through every day situations with more fluency and confidence. I’ll ask you about any previous Dutch learning and your level. I can tell you more about myself too. We’ll have a small class. This is usually some conversation lesson adapted to your current level. Guy is the best tutor I had. He adapt to your level and start from there, and you will see progress over time. He constantly challenge me to talk but gently so I don't feel guilty that I can't do it 100%. Happy to work with him and pretty confident, because already see some progress.
