About Mirjam H.
Hi there! My name is Mirjam, and I've had a lifelong passion for language and culture that I’m excited to share with you on this platform! I graduated with honors from the University of Antwerp with a Master’s in Translation (Dutch, English, and Portuguese). Soon, I felt the urge to teach Dutch to non-native newcomers, so I started my teacher training. I have about 6 years of experience teaching Dutch to both adult learners and minors. Besides teaching, I have 3 years of experience as a social worker, and I also advocate for social justice in my free time. At the University of Antwerp, I earned my teaching diploma. I have 6 years of experience in teaching, specifically in 'Dutch as a Second Language'. I’ve worked with adult students in NT2 education (Dutch as a Second Language) as well as with minors in OKAN education (Reception Class for Non-Native Newcomers). In my lessons, I believe it’s important to start from the student’s world, interests, and needs, encouraging as much interaction and exchange as possible. We learn by doing when we can, and theory and grammar rules when necessary. I strive to create an environment where students feel safe to experiment, make mistakes, ask questions, and let their creativity flow.
