About Lauri C.
Hi! I'm Lauri, a translator and writer from Flanders, Belgium. I was born and raised in the Noorderkempen, making me a native speaker of Flemish Dutch. I'm super passionate about language, writing, and reading, and I'm a total history nerd. That's why I first studied Applied Linguistics: to become an expert in my own language, as well as in English and Italian. Since that didn't quite satisfy my literary hunger, I also added a Master's in Comparative Literature (for English and Italian). Language is really my thing. I'm lucky to work with it every day as a translator, proofreader, and copywriter. I love getting creative with writing essays and articles, or working on content creation. As a 'side quest', I also have a historical podcast in Flemish. I don't have a teaching degree, but my academic background gives me a deep understanding of the Dutch language and Dutch and Flemish culture. Plus, I have experience teaching Dutch to non-native speakers. I hold two Master's degrees in language and literature in Dutch, English, and Italian, and I've been working as a professional translator for over 5 years. From 2020 to 2023, I worked at a large Belgian bank, where I quickly became an expert in non-life insurance. There, I started creating and expanding course materials and training new colleagues. Training others in such a specialized field has really taught me how to convey complex concepts with practical examples, making them easy to understand. Total beginner or advanced speaker? Everyone is welcome in this little virtual piece of Belgium. We're definitely going to make our Dutch lessons fun! I listen to what you need and easily adapt to your level. But of course, I also love to challenge you and ensure you get plenty of practical practice so you can really use the language. I do this by incorporating culture and history, as I'm so passionate about it that I just can't help but talk about it. So, if you want to dive deep into the Dutch language, then we're a match!
